Arctic Athabaskan Council
CLA-ACE is pleased to announce that it has partnered the Toronto firm of Olthius Kleer Townshend with the Arctic Athabaskan Council (AAC) in the Yukon on a research project involving the exploration of climate change issues within the context of the Umbrella Final Agreement (UFA) that was signed by the Government of Canada, the Government of the Yukon, and the Yukon First Nations. This project is providing AAC with legal assistance in exploring how this cutting edge issue intersects with the UFA, and other legal obligations.
Kosovo Law Centre
CLA-ACE was very pleased with the success of its pilot pro bono project with the Kosovo Law Center and Heenan Blaikie LLP to produce Kosovo Supreme Court Reports. This project was designed to increase the transparency of Kosovo’s legal system, improve the written product of the Supreme Court and lower courts, contribute to safeguarding the independence and impartiality of the judiciary and allow Kosovars to follow and understand important case law. The project received considerable attention and was the subject of an article in the May 2006 edition of The Lawyers Weekly. We would like to thank the firm for its enthusiasm and dedication to the project, and in particular, Susan Heakes and Ryan Teschner who were critical to its success.
